Johnny Winter

Chris and I went to see Johnny in London on Tuesday. We had a hell of a time finding the venue, kind of a wild goose chase. Our efforts were rewarded. This was the most electrified, ass-kicking blues show that we had seen in a decade. Johnny, although debilitated to the point of having to sit and play, still had all the chops, that makes him, in my opinion, a superior guitar player...better even than Stevie Ray. Wow...my ears are still ringing!

It was so long ago I almost don't remember it. I was working at the Cafe Espresso in Woodstock New York, February, 1968. It was cold and snowing and the joint was empty. About 9:00 two guys walked in and asked if they could set up and jam in preparation for a concert gig. They were Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer.

It took them another two hours to set up and by then, somehow, word had gotten out and the place was jammed to the walls. What a scene! I dropped some sunshine and got laid in the Ladies room, lol!

God, I miss the 60's!
